It was all Joey’s fault. It always was.
He threw too many interceptions. He didn’t go downfield. He wasn’t mobile enough. More importantly, the Detroit Lions just could not win with him at quarterback.
So the Lions parted ways with the embattled quarterback during the off-season and signed John Kitna. Kitna was billed as a tough quarterback who just made plays; a solid quarterback that would lead the Lions to the playoffs.
Well, Detroit is 0-5 and John Kitna has cost the Lions the last two games. He was responsible for three turnovers against the Rams last week that lead to seventeen points. This week he had a fumble returned for a touchdown and a bonehead pass that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Detroit was up 17-3 entering the fourth quarter against the Vikings and thanks to Kitna the Lions lost 26-17.
If this had been good ole Joey, Lion’s fans and the Detroit media would be ranting how homosexuals just can’t play football. Everyone in Detroit would be calling for his head. But Kitna has gotten a free pass this season. If Joey couldn’t blame it on a lack of an offensive line and no running game, Kitna cannot use those excuses. It’s time for sharp and stinging words for his dismal performances.
John Kitna is at best a back-up quarterback in the NFL. He is turnover prone and has the same phantom badass attitude Jeff Garcia had. There is a lot of talk about how tough he is, but there are no results.
The Lions are 0-5. Matt Millen is an incompetent bozo and now Detroit cannot use Joey as the scapegoat. Kitna should be blasted for his play. Dre Bly and the defense are awful. Detroit Lions football is a joke and an embarrassment and everyone is to blame. But Kitna needs to get the same treatment Joey did, because he looks worse than Joey.
How did Joey do today in his first start as a Dolphin? Well, he was Joey: two interceptions and a loss. I wonder if Dolphin fans will be as relentless as Detroit fans were with Joey. And I wonder when the over-due criticism of Kitna’s poor play will start.

all good points. the tigers are great news. the lions are bad news. i like joey, but he hasn't shown he is a good quarterback.
my point i guess is that just because the tigers have done so well doesn't mean we shouldn't criticize the worst franchise in professional sports. kitna doesn't deserve a free pass for his awful play because the tigers are good.
when the tigers were bad they couldn't escape the headlines and scrutiny. the lions are pathetic and we still need to talk about how awful they are.
the tigers have done some good and will need to get ready for the a's. but are the yankees off the hook because the new york giants got back on the winning track this weekend? most likely not.
and the tigers didn't make the necessary changes until everyone started screaming. i don't think the blog alliance will enact any changes within the lions organization, but i'm not letting this awful franchise off the hook because the other team playing in detroit right now is good.
i'm sorry that this was a negative post. there is good news in detroit, but these jokers shouldn't get off that easy. 17-3 going into the fourth quarter and two kitna turnovers lead to a 26-17 loss. tomorrow we'll talk about the tigers and the a's, today we need to show how bad this team is.

In all fairness to Kitna, the fumble returned for a touchdown was the fault of Raiola and/or Saipaia, who let Pat Williams go unblocked. Kitna faked a handoff and was hit before he could even turn around.
true. but he doesn't get use those excuses because no one let harrington. receivers dropped passes, ran wrong routes, were injuried or on drugs. the o-line has been awful for a long time.
so he still accounted for the same type of turnovers has harrington...or maybe worse.
by the way, i'm not being objective. i hate john kitna. but i still think i'm making valid points

I agree with you about the Harrington thing. I defended Harrington until the very end. I placed blame on the offensive line (Kelly Butler) and the receivers (Charles Rogers, Az Hakim, Mike Williams) and the running backs (Kevin Jones is very average). Kitna's made some boneheaded plays, and so did Joey, but much of the blame can be placed elsewhere.
